Mothers are worthy to be celebrated. They deserve every tribute given to them. Everyday of their lives should be declared mother’s day because they are priceless.

A mother is not just only those that gave birth but all the women who have contributed in one way or the other to add values into someone’s life.

I was carried away with other activities that I almost forgot what a special day today is. A day to honour the women that have influenced so much positivity into the world. Let me quickly say this, it’s not all the women that have given birth that, are qualified to be celebrated. I will explain myself later.

Let us take a little step back to history and have a brief knowledge of how it all started and who started it.

Mother’s Day, initially was like a peace demonstration, an anti-war movement. It was first celebrated officially, at St. Andrew’s Methodist church Grafton, West Virginia, on the 10th May, 1908. The whole idea was initiated by ANNA JARVIS. The then, president of the United States,  President Woodrow on May 9th 1914, officially designated the second Sunday of May as the day for it’s celebration which has spread all over the world. The United Nations began the celebration in 1975.

Just to wish all mothers a happy day
Mothers are priceless

My own definition of a mother might be different from yours but this is mine. A mother is that woman who stood by her children (child) throughout the thick and thin of their lives, starting from pregnancy to the childbirth. She cries when they cry and laughs when they laugh. Their pain is her pain. She has sacrificed her life just for her children to live. Her sacrifice knows no bound. Mothers are always ready to give up their lives for their kids. She starves, so that her children may eat, cries so they can laugh, homeless so her children may have shelter. It’s only God that understands the pains a mother goes through for her own.

A mother is that woman who is always there for you, irrespective of the fact that she is not your biological mother. She takes good care of you and gives you great advice, that is a mother. She inspires you and loves humanity. Motherhood is not basically all about giving birth alone. I respect these good women.

Some people asked, why is mother’s day always celebrated multiple times? The answer is simple; because mothers are special. They are supposed to be celebrated every day. Their importance and significance to life and humanity can never be overemphasized. Mothers are pillars. They are shields. Their love is the real definition of true love. Love full of sacrifices, without expecting anything in return. Kudos to all the great mothers out there.

< It doesn’t take much to celebrate that special mom in your life. She could be your biological mother, your relative, a neighbour, etc, she has added a great value to your life. She looks after you like you are her own even though you are not. Appreciate her because she deserves it. An ordinary ‘thank you’ might be all she needed. Give her a hug, send her a card, buy her a gift, let her feel your love. Show all the special moms in your life how much they mean to you. How much you value them and how you can never trade them for all the riches in the world.

I always say this, there is nothing like a good mother and a bad mother. Its either you are a mother or you are not. Giving birth alone does not qualify you as a mother. These few qualities defines a mother:

  • She is kind
  • Loving
  • Prayerful
  • Caring
  • Strong
  • Kind
  • Full of wisdom
  • Selfless
  • Compassionate
  • A builder
  •  Straight forward
  • Protector
  • Disciplinarian
  • A friend
  • Sacrifices many of her needs for the needs of her loved ones.
  • A hard worker
  • etc

The roles of a mother are endless, starting from her children, her entire household, all the people around her to the society and the world at large. She manages the home and organises everything. She smiles in her pain and hides her tears. The strength of a mother is second to none. She is tireless. Mothers are super-heroes (heroines). I don’t know why I’m so excited, maybe because I’m a mother.

I celebrate all the great, strong, wonderful, hardworking, special and beautiful mothers all over the world today and always. All your sacrifices are appreciated, both the seen and the unseen. Congratulations to all of us, all the good mums and aspiring good mums.

Mother's day is being celebrated all over the world.
Mothers are special

Kisses to all of you.

Much love from me to you. Share is love.

Share to all the beautiful and great mothers in the world. Let them feel special because they are.
